Thank you so much for spotlighting our family, Rainy. I hope our story will inspire and encourage others.

Some of your visitors may have questions we might help answer or situations we might have experienced that could benefit others. If they would like to contact us through you that would be lovely.

You do so much good in the world. It's great that you spread all your love around cyberspace, too!

Gratefully

Connie...
Yes, the woodworking makes enough to purchase the wood and the stain as well as the hardware. However, finding ways to help support the other portions of the project are necessary. What to DO with all of that ground up glass is a question that is in debate. Some of it is being used as I mentioned in the article. However, as you can well imagine, there is alot of glass bottles in the garbage dumpsters in the community. Landscaping is using some of it...but still, there must be a more lucrative solution to processing and using the end product. Something that the kids can do with it as well as a way of earning money for doing the work. This is our challenge. Thanks for visiting and commenting and thanks for recommending this site to Sheila!

Thank you Sheila for visiting the blog and leaving a comment. We appreciate the interaction and you just never know what our readers can come up with when they put their heads together through commenting. Yes, funding seems to be a problem in all areas of education around our nation. It is sad; however, we must be progressive about looking for those very answers you mentioned. I wish you luck there in Utah and hope that the lives of those affected can be greatly improved with a little brainstorming on those funding issues. Best wishes!

Oh, Lorraine,
I'm grateful that Connie forwarded this to me. You cover so much territory in one blog. Informative you are. We have a problem funding such in Utah, too, but there has to be an answer.
Love and Light, Sheila

Oh, Rainy, if only we had magic wands and could make this problem go away! The issue is Universal; perhaps we could gather as a Universal group, have ourselves a bake sale and discuss all the ways there might be of attracting the ginormous funding needed to make these programs-as well as others-run like well oiled machines.

It seems likely that programs such as the woodworking you mention would be self sustaining. It also seems likely that Seniors or other available people could volunteer their time to assist students where their expertise lies. It seems likely there could be fund raising events, foundations, even estate gifts set up to fund these worthwhile projects and programs AND PEOPLE.

If some magical funding formula exists, I did not get that memo. If someone gets it before I do, I hope they will make sure we ALL know about it!

Thanks for a great post, Rainy. You do a good job of keeping our awareness level up top!

Warmly,
Connie

Thanks for sending me this link, Rainy! I see that Miss Louise has already commented, too :-) I actually first heard about The Friendship Puzzle through Louise and her toginet show. Although I haven't seen it yet, Louise tells me it's wonderful.

I look forward to checking out their website again and learning more about the book!

I hope this information gets out to the masses and people will allow themselves to become enlightened.

As for my contribution, I will be sharing this information and your blog post to my contacts at our childrens' agencies and services coordinators so they can let their clients know about these things. In addition, I have retired teachers in my network who can contact their networks to get the word out, too.

God bless you all and bless those special needs folks who have so much to teach us.

Rainy, God bless you for being such an inspiration and sharing it in such delightful ways. You are a blessing to mankind.

Warmly,
Connie Baum

I am a huge fan of Julie and Sondra. Their dedication to The Friendship Puzzle in honor of their friend, Jenny Maloni is remarkable! They truly are ladies of actions and words!

Like the meaning of the book and the works of Gordon Hartman, I believe that all children have the right to play and grow- with each other. I do not know Mr. Hartman, but respect and honor his enthusiasm.

However, it was my privilege to have Julie and Sondra join my show in January 2010 (Learning and Laughter with Louise!). Their desire to educate others about inclusion, friendship and special programs such as the Kennedy-Krieger Institute's IAN PROJECT was invaluable for many of our listeners and followers of the show. I know that many people availed themselves of the important information provided.

BRAVO to Rainy for spotlighting all of these "doers" here on this wonderful blog!

I applaud you, Rainy, as well as Shara. This subject needs to be dealt with openly and not swept under the rug.

I am so old that I remember when special needs people were routinely locked away in closets and hidden from outside family members because of the shame and guilt associated with having a child born who was not "perfect."

When our own special needs son, adopted, arrived in the world, it was suggested to his parents that they "put him away." I thank God every day for the series of miracles that offered me the opportunity to become his mother because he arrived on the planet with gifts of love that truly have the potential to heal the world.

As for the man in Shara's piece who made such an insensitive remark, I believe we need to forgive him, as difficult as that may seem to be.

Good job, Rainy!

Love
